Fire Detection and Fire Alarm Systems for Buildings: This award covers the full content of BS 5839-1:2017, Fire detection and fire alarm systems for buildings. Part 1 covers the Code of practice for design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of systems in non-domestic premises.
Who is this qualification for?
It is intended for learners/engineers who are working in the fire-sector of the electrical industry and wish to update or refresh their understanding of this essential BSI publication. It may also be useful to electricians to gain an understanding of the standard.
What does this qualification cover?
This qualification covers the recommendations and commentary of BS 5839-1:2017. The award is comprised of one unit which has 35 Guided Learning Hours (GLH). It has a Total Qualification Time (TQT) 40 hours (notational time required by the learner to complete the qualification).
Achievement of the Qualification
The qualification is achieved when the unit assessment (on-line examination) has been successfully completed. The centre will then be able to apply for the learner’s certificate. The overall grading type for this qualification is Pass/Fail.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING
Delegates will need to provide photographic identification as well as their National Insurance number on their first day of training. The following photographic identification is accepted:
- Driving Licence etc.
There are no formal entry requirements for these qualifications; however centres should ensure that the learners have the potential to achieve these qualifications. Learners must have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy to complete the learning outcomes and assessments.
It is recommended that learners have completed a recognised electrical apprenticeship, or as a minimum hold qualifications covering inspection and testing, and a current qualification to the wiring regulations. The guided learning hours attributed to this qualification assume the average learner will be involved in the electrical contracting industry.
Centres should make learners with particular requirements aware of the content of the qualification and they should be given every opportunity to successfully complete the qualification. EAL will consider any reasonable suggestions for, and from, those with disabilities that would help them to achieve the learning outcomes without compromising the standards required.
